Process and Production: Cinema 4D with Jay Payne Lesson 2

Image
Contemporary 3d Software as a Design Tool Lesson 2 For the fifth week of process and production we resume with Jay Payne for out next lesson on Cinema4d. This session will be exploring dynamics and particle systems proposed for randomised design. The outcome of this workshop will be a series of design experiments using Cinema 4d.  To begin with we were shown a graphic designer called Gmunk who is one of the top visual and design directors in the world, after briefly looking at his site, his portfolio is remarkably impressive and one piece I loved in particular was 'Ora Summoners HALO'. Personally I think this work gives of a futuristic cartographical appeal to it which I think looks great, this is a style I have wanted to experiment with for a very long time and something I intend to create within the following year after the formative deadline. Below are two examples of this style.  ...

Genealogies Week 5: Finalisation and Preparation for Presentation

Genealogies Week 5 Finalising my idea: This is the fifth and final week for the genealogies project. With the formative deadline being on Friday 27th (before midnight) it's time to put my concept into fruition and prepare for presentation. Although it is only a formative assessment I am rather anxious about ensuring that all of my work is up to date and ready for submission. After all, for this year I do intend on keeping up with the workload and having some solid idea and concepts to bring to the table and present in comparison to my first year, after how bad it went from a personal standpoint. To begin with, out of all of my briefs and projects the one I will be focusing on primarily is my genealogies project. seeing that I hit a bit of a dead end regarding the polystyrene idea in the previous week, I decided that instead of trying to make the polystyrene idea work and presentable, I would much rather work on the original idea which was about redesigning every day obje...

Genealogies Week 4: Mockup Designs and Sketchbook Development.

Image
Genealogies Week 4 This blog post is a rather text heavy post in comparison to the rest, this post is about my research and understanding of the theoretical aspect of my genealogies project alongside productions of the outcomes that i will be presenting on my formative presentation.  Genealogies Submission Brief: During this morning's lecture we were presented with the submission details for the formative assessment. The deadline for the Genealogies project is on Friday 27th October, for the presentation I have to produce 4 pages containing key stages of development and progression for my idea. These are to presented as PDF format and I will have 5 minutes to share my idea and outcomes to a small group. The submission details were added to UniLearn and below is a screenshot of the document. Admittedly I'm somewhat nervous about this because who likes presentations anyway? I'd say the main issue would be trying to compa...

Process and Production: Rotoscoping With Sara Nesteruk

Image
Rotoscoping For this process and production workshop with Sara, we will be looking at rotoscoping and creating our own rotoscoped piece from a 1-2 second loop of footage, the loop will then be composed into a 10 second video.  Rotoscoping is a technique used by animators to trace over a motion footage frame by frame. This is an extremely time consuming technique so much so it will probably take the whole workshop session to produce a 1 second loop, however the outcomes can look amazing if you put enough time and effort into this technique. Rotoscoping is quite a popular technique used to create some really interesting music videos, Sara showed us one during class for 'Young the Giant, Something to Believe in' which featured a rather paint -esque appeal to it with a set colour palette. What I liked in particular was the patterns and design used on the outlines of the person dancing and singing, below is a Vimeo link to t...

Discussing the Progression of my Art Style.

Image
The Nythim art Style. At the end of the first year I made it my goal to get better at software like adobe illustrator during the break to further develop my skills, but also attempt to create a style that I could consistently work with and expand upon comfortably. Eventually I came up with a Minimal style that uses line art and minimal colour to create futuristic and cyberpunk inspired art. Majority if not all of my art in this style is posted on my Instagram account. Below is an example of my current art style.  Trace Image Designs: However it took me quite a bit of developing and experimentation for my artwork to become what it is today.  When I started using illustrator on a daily basis, a lot of my artwork featured a variety bright colours in comparison to how I work now. The first style I worked with focused heavily on the trace image tool, using this tool on images in PNG format ...
