Keeping Busy Over the Winter Break

Image
Let's kick into gear. Ahh christmas limbo, those 5 days of not knowing what time it is as we let ourselves go in front of the telly with an abundance of chocolate we got as gifts and left over food from Christmas day. As i'm typing this i'm eaten enough junk food to choke a well.. me. However! during the holiday period I tried to keep myself busy by experimenting with adobe illustrator more and try out new tools, the blend tool in particular has been a pretty awesome recent find. I took a small break from doing university work and decided to focus primarily on making some designs for both my Instagram account and for a portfolio, lines and crosses on a grey background are great and all but I want to provide evidence that I am capable of working in a variety of art styles and not stuck to one. I wanted to create this blog post to showcase what I have been working on these past couple of days.  German Cyberpunk Inspired Posters To begin with I wanted to cr...

End of Term 1

Image
Term 1 Complete This blog has essentially become an online Journal because I find typing to be quicker and easier than writing with a pen. As I am typing this up, the first term of the second year has finished. The studio is virtually empty apart from myself and a couple of others and it's feels like it's 8pm when it's only 4, winter always messes with my body clock.  But anyway the first term was personally mediocre, I didn't particularly enjoy the genealogies project as much as I wanted to but saying I do have time to make the outcome different and better than a magazine prototype. I wasn't entirely too proud of what I presented for the formative with that project I was trying to make it relate to graphic design and ended up with a rather overused outcome. One thing I do need to be cautious about is juggling all the projects and making sure I don't fall too far behind on current ones. For the Imminent self project i did fall behind trying to come up with ...

Process and Production: Self Deconstruction with Nick Deakin

Self Deconstruction? (Cutting and sticking 101) Ok so I didn't entirely know what to call this workshop, so I guess self deconstruction seemed like a relevant title. For today's Process and Production with Nick we worked with our self portraits by cutting them up and forming new images out of them. To start off we used our photographs from our student cards enlarged to A4 and cut them up, however Nick didn't have my photograph. Reason why is perhaps down to I was initially part of Group 1 which had a workshop with nick as the first process and production session, but due to nick being absent that session I decided to join I different class that day meaning that I became part of group 3 instead so Nick might have not had my name on the group three list. So instead! I used a photograph of another student who was Absent. For their protection online I chose not to show the original image I used and their name. (so...

Imminent Self Week 3: Concept Development

Image
Concept Development  In the previous blog post I talked about trans humanism and a potential idea that I wish to develop upon and bring to production. To recap the idea is to fabricate a fake transhumanist mega corporation/company that is promoting, visualising and informing the theory of transhumanism. This will be achieved by creating a false domain alongside corporate identity consisting of business cards, letter heads, a logo (Ideally both motion and static) etc. (who would have thought that I'd be making my own fake mega corporation in my second year of uni! Hella dope.) Making a Company Name So to begin with, I wanted to come up with a name and a logo for the corporation starting with a name. I wanted the company to have a futuristic Sci-fi name yet still be taken serious and potentially considered as an actual company that exists. When searching for inspiration of a name, I came across an interesting site ca...
