End of Term 1

Term 1 Complete

This blog has essentially become an online Journal because I find typing to be quicker and easier than writing with a pen. As I am typing this up, the first term of the second year has finished. The studio is virtually empty apart from myself and a couple of others and it's feels like it's 8pm when it's only 4, winter always messes with my body clock. But anyway the first term was personally mediocre, I didn't particularly enjoy the genealogies project as much as I wanted to but saying I do have time to make the outcome different and better than a magazine prototype. I wasn't entirely too proud of what I presented for the formative with that project I was trying to make it relate to graphic design and ended up with a rather overused outcome. One thing I do need to be cautious about is juggling all the projects and making sure I don't fall too far behind on current ones. For the Imminent self project i did fall behind trying to come up with ideas that are unique and relevant to both graphic design and the brief, luckily I now have a solid idea and it's time to bring it into actual production. Over the 4 week holiday I might temporarily put a hold on the blog so I can focus on my imminent self project and my essay. 

Additionally I decided to purchase a new sketchbook/journal that I will be using for a new contextual portfolio. The reason as to why is because my previous one became too much of a personal journal for lectures. I used it to take notes and doodle in. Looking at the contextual portfolios of others I believe that i had too much writing and not enough visual context. resulting in two sketchbooks, one for my contextual portfolio and the other for my note book for lectures. I have yet to complete a sketchbook fully, it would be good to have one fully complete. tattered ink stained and unable to fully close. a 'THICC' book with 'THICC' contextual artwork.

The Nythim art Style. At the end of the first year I made it my goal to get better at software like adobe illustrator during the break to further develop my skills, but also attempt to create a style that I could consistently work with and expand upon comfortably. Inspirational Artist: Artem Solop

Punk Painting, Vector madness & Robot Pop There are many artists and designers that I find inspiring, Corpse tits and her eye candy lewd pieces, Simon Stålenhag with his scenic artwork combining Swedish countryside with futuristic elements and much more. But there is one artist that I find absolutely inspirational and aspire to be like one day, Artem Solop.  Artem Solop creates both digital and traditional futuristic graffiti-esque illustrations that simply stand out amongst the rest, his designs have a sketchy yet neat and contained appeal to them that I adore. I always look at his work that has been hand drawn using ball points and fine liners in amazement hoping of one day being able to create sketchbooks filled with pages the way he does his. Process and Production: The Boiling Effect with Sara Nesturuk

Combining hand drawn with digital For today's workshop with Sara we will be having a look at an animation technique called boiling. Boiling is a rather quick technique that uses hand drawn illustrations that are converted to digital and animated to give off this fidgety and agitated appearance. To begin with, we sketched an asset to work with and traced it an additional 2 times, I decided to do my Nythim skull as the illustration (surprise surprise.) One thing to take note is that when creating the boil animation effect, apparently it's preferable to create an odd number of illustrations to work with instead of even because if you use an even number the animation effect has a sort of glitchy look instead of a agitated look.  Whilst we were creating the illustrations Sara showed me an interesting artist called David Foldvari.
