Process and Production: Creating Zines with Christopher
Converting Sketchbook Notes Into Zines
Due to Nick being absent, our workshop session was tutored by Christopher. Unfortunately I was late to the session because of public transport so I missed the first hour of the workshop. For this session we were tasked with taking notes by illustrating whilst Christopher lectured. After the class had some illustrative notes we were tasked with creating a zine inspired by the illustrated notes. Due to being late I shared notes with class mates and improvised.
When designing zines I have a more gridded and laid out method due to creating magazine mock ups and designs using Adobe Indesign. During my intermediate studio practice session I came up with the idea of continuing my magazine 'Pathetic Aesthetic' and implement my projects throughout my time at the course in article format resulting in a portfolio of all my work during uni as a magazine.
I took this idea combined with my art style as inspiration for this session, I called the zine 'Pathetic Aesthetic: Magenta Edition' and only used pink and grey pens to illustrate each page. We only had an hour to work on this part so I mainly focused on illustrating instead of adding text or typography. Below Is two scans of what I created during this part of the workshop.
The colour pink has recently become a favoured colour often featured with my personal artwork and even in my note book.
The final part of this workshop we got into a group and made a collaborative zine, I worked in a group of two with a classmate who shares the same design interest of digital and cyberpunk inspired art for this workshop. We created something that had a propaganda theme to it, below are scans of the collaborative zine design.
