Speculative Futures Week 3: Concept Design

Image
Concept Designs One thing I have to take into consideration is that the idea of designing around the object of pills, is and has been a very popular design choice over the years. Even the concept of taking pills as food has been done before if not over done. Additionally one thing that I have noticed is that there are a couple of students who are doing similar ideas with pills, I guess the idea is common in regards to fictional, speculative future.  This makes me think about what I can do that will be different than what has already been done. One thing I don't want to do is create another brand/company with some simple packaging prototypes because it's such a basic design idea to do, I want something that I can experiment with and reach out of my comfort zone a little bit. That being said I want to create something that can create Immersion, something that could be interactive (not interactive as in come and eat all these cold and flu capsules, just to clarify) and ...

Process and Production: Sub-Object Modelling with Jay Payne

Image
Sub-Object Modelling  For today's workshop session with Jay, we will be creating our own 3d character model out of a singular shape with the use of various tools such as extrude and tools that can be found on the sub object tool bar. We will also be looking at cel shading these character models nearer to the end of the workshop session. I am eager to get on with this workshop because this will be my first ever 3D character model creation.  Jay showed us Pictoplasma, an organisation that is dedicated to the art of character design, the site has an awesome archive of character designs that have been submitted by the general public and after having a quick flick through I would love to submit my Nythim character to the 'Pictofolio' they actually have a themed submission on at the moment called 'character stare down' where you can submit a character gif of the character staring towards the viewer this would be a great addition to my character and I might consi...

Speculative Futures Week 2: Idea Development

Image
Idea Development It is week 2 of this brief and I think I have a pretty good idea that I would like to develop upon, Instead of continuing with my what if scenario of what if we had a technological recession. I have decided to return to an idea that I originally had for my genealogies project, the idea is what if our meals and food like sustenance in the near future were minimised down to a pill form. With this idea, I could create my own food brand of these pop out capsule tablets that represent a meal. I could create advertisements that focus on the convenience of it, such as 'Why slave in the kitchen all day when you can have the perfect roast dinner in seconds', perhaps create advertisements of a family sat around the dinner table enjoying a family meal but with these pills instead. I could create gourmet pill 'meals', photographing these elaborately plated dishes that you would see in high class...

Motion North Manchester 2018.

Image
Motion-Go and Motion North On Wednesdays after our process and production sessions, there is a motion graphics and animation club with Sara Nesturuk called 'Motion Go'. Anyone can attend and get involved with additional little side projects, experiment with Adobe Aftereffects as well as collaborate and share ideas, inspirations, critique and network with one another. Majority if not all of the Motion Go team are part of the Graphic Design and Animation course however there have been a couple of people from other courses such as illustration who have attended for a session or two to see what it's like. It would be nice if the club did expand a little bit and perhaps more students from our course popped their head in for a session but it can be considered as extra work load on top of the existing projects which is understandable.   Although I regularly attend the session i'm usually too busy documenting the process and production session prior onto blogger, this me...

Process and Production: Z space with Sara Nesturuk

Using 3D Objects in After Effects For our next process and production workshop with Sara, we are exploring the use of 3d layers in Adobe After Effects. Using Illustrator assets, we will be importing multiple layers into after effects to create a scene that will utilise a camera tool that will pan and zoom between the different layers. As a side note, I'm glad that the Macs in the studio have had their adobe software updated to the latest version during the winter break. Due to having the latest version on my computer at home, I was having slight issues bringing after effects compositions in from home and loading it on the Macs. To begin with Sara showed us a music video by 'Oneedo' on Vimeo that uses this technique very effectively. The music video also uses a page turn distortion effect which makes the assets look like they are layering on top of one another as the camera slowly zooms out, this is a really interesting technique that I have always wanted t...
